Complex Endometriosis Center

More training courses

The Complex Endometriosis Center reaffirms its commitment to improving the daily lives of women suffering from endometriosis, and one of its concrete actions is to raise awareness among local healthcare professionals.

The aim is to make progress in terms of diagnosis and appropriate patient management.

For almost 20 years, Professor Olivier DONNEZ and his teams have been working at national and international level to improve understanding of the disease and optimize care.

To this end, the EDUPRAT Endometriosis face-to-face training course on September 19, 2024 and the Manoléta Endometriosis training course on September 21, 2024 in Avignon brought together many professionals in the field.

Our coordinator answered patients' questions directly at a round table discussion on September 28, 2024 in Valréas.

Thank you all for your presence, your questions and the group energy that drives us forward together...

Surgery for multiple digestive endometriosis lesions

Endosud network RMM meeting presentation June 4, 2024

The CEC is a regular contributor to the Endosud network, helping to set up the endometriosis care network in the PACA region, and presents the results of its latest studies.

Professor DONNEZ presented thebenefits of shaving in association with short sigmoidal resection in the case of multiple lesions, and the distant results for patients. These procedures are regularly performed at the CEC in close partnership with the Digestive Surgery Department and Dr Alexandre LlORY.

The undeniable advantage of this technique is that it preserves the rectum intact (rectal shaving), while performing a short digestive resection averaging between 4 and 7 cm. The colonic anastomosis is therefore located higher up, at a distance from the cul de sac of Douglas, which reduces the risk of vaginal fistula, since there is no rectal amputation and therefore no low anastomosis. The average hospital stay is 3 to 5 days, and the risk of complications is as low as for conservative surgery, while the risk of recurrence is very low, at around 1.6%.

CEC is currently a pioneer in this surgical technique, in which shaving is combined for the first time with digestive resection.

MOVING FORWARD

The CEC is proud to have participated in this research, which is now being applied to scientific studies on new molecules for the treatment of endometriosis.

This is a continuation of scientific work on a GnRH antagonist, Linzagolix, which CEC has already offered its patients in a pilot trial in 2018.

At 3 months, Linzagolix administration showed a clinically and statistically significant efficacy in reducing dysmenorhoea and intermenstrual pain.

The proportion of patients responding to dysmenorrhea was 73% in the treated group versus 23% in the placebo group.

This is a significant advance in the medical treatment of women suffering from endometriosis.

A walk through the Vaucluse to raise awareness of endometriosis

Céline and her son Mathias were able to complete the planned course. Many of you supported them in this courageous challenge. The CEC salutes and supports this initiative in aid of the Manoléta association, which takes part day after day, site after site, in the fight against Endometriosis.

International

Presentation on March 6, 2024 in London on Shaving

On March 6, 2024, Professor DONNEZ took part as a renowned surgeon in the surgical management of endometriosis. He presented the London team with his knowledge of the surgical technique of shaving and the results of the numerous publications on the subject.

Invited by the London-based Centre for Endometriosis and Minimally Invasive Gynaecology (CEMIG), discussions at the conference led to advances in the surgical management of the condition.

Endometriosis is a pathology that knows no borders, and international collaboration between scientists is important.

The World Health Organization estimates that 190 million women are affected.

The CEC is taking concrete action on the international stage.

The CEC is actively involved in and supports initiatives designed to raise awareness among healthcare professionals.

               March is marked by

THE 20th EUROPEAN ENDOMETRIOSIS PREVENTION AND INFORMATION WEEK :

MARCH 4 TO 10, 2024

The Manoléta association initiated a dedicated event for healthcare professionals, which took place on March 9, 2024 and brought together a large number of professionals on the site of the Urbain V polyclinic at 47 chemin du pont des 2 eaux in Avignon.

In 2022, the presentation of the national strategy to combat endometriosis marked a new awareness on the part of the political bodies in place, and set the course for all the active organizations.

The complexity of caring for patients with endometriosis means that all care providers must be involved.

The aim is to enable the healthcare professionals present to be informed and to play an active role in the dynamics of this care.

The CEC, which has received a favorable opinion from the ARS for its application as a Referral Center for Surgery, at the prefiguration stage of the network, is part of the structured and accessible graded care offer.

CEC plays an active role in local projects.

Because women's health is one of our top priorities,

Endora Project

The CEC is currently participating in the ENDORA 2 study in partnership with the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital and the SURGAR company. This is the first step in the use of augmented reality allowing the surgeon to see inside the pelvic organs using a software mixing MRI imaging with the image seen in laparoscopy. Currently, this feasibility study concerns only uterine myomas. More information is available from the CEC.

Towards more collaboration

The CEC has set up multidisciplinary meetings that can be accessed remotely via the ROFIM platform, to enable as many specialists as possible to have access to the RCP, and to obtain a rapid opinion with an immediate RCP form. The platform enables images to be downloaded securely, so that they can be re-read during the RCP and a suitable course of treatment proposed. Tele-expertise is also possible.
